Tiny Home Village Receives Big Donation

The Tiny Home Village (THV) has received a donation of 30 queen-sized mattresses from the local stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. (CJCLDS)

THV is a housing initiative designed to assist those individuals experiencing homelessness in the Albuquerque area. The Tiny Home Village consists of 30 residential homes of roughly 120 square feet per unit, and a central gathering house that residents can use for cooking meals, washing laundry, and as a general gathering place for communal activities.

“We are very thankful for the very generous donation of new, high quality mattresses from the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS ,” says County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. “The generosity of our community in support of this housing development has been so encouraging, and we are very fortunate to have many champions.”

CJCLDS got involved with the THV project as part of the church’s philanthropic mission and the continued support of community projects and organizations.

The mattresses were secured through the CJCLDS mattress factory in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is more than 16-million members strong world-wide, who contribute to a humanitarian effort,” says Albuquerque North Stake President Rob Saxton. “We believe in being part of the community by stepping outside of ourselves and our lives to ask, where can we help.”

Tiny Home Village is in the process of screening and accepting the first residents. The official ribbon-cutting to present the village to the public is set for early 2021. Tiny Home Village is a project of Bernalillo County in partnership with and Albuquerque Indian Center in southeast Albuquerque.
