Bernalillo County Otter Investment Comes to Fruition

Bernalillo County Commission Chair, Steven Michael Quezada cut the ribbon today on the new river otter exhibit at the Albuquerque BioPark.

The new exhibit was made possible with $2 million in general obligation bonds put forth by the county commission and approved by voters in 2014.

“The voters of Bernalillo County have always supported good quality of life initiatives, says County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. “This exhibit is a great addition for the families of the county as well as visitors looking for a unique and educational visit.”

The City of Albuquerque, State of New Mexico, Southwest Capital Bank, and the New Mexico BioPark Society contributed roughly $700 thousand to the project. The river otter exhibit was built at a cost of more than $2.7 million and is projected to generate about $11 million in revenue per year.
