Commission Honors South Valley MainStreet

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners honored and recognized South Valley MainStreet for its years of dedication to the revitalization of the commercial district near Bridge and Isleta Boulevards in the South Valley during its March 14 meeting. Its achievement of national accreditation for the same.

South Valley MainStreet is a grassroots economic development nonprofit organization formed in 2014 to revitalize the commercial district in the Bridge and Isleta Boulevards corridor with business owners and local residents under the philosophies of design, organization, promotion and economic vitality, with the assistance of grants and programs from the South Valley Entrepreneurial Network, New Mexico MainStreet, PNM, Bernalillo County and others.

Activities of South Valley MainStreet include repairing and painting building facades and building rehabilitation, holding the Gateway Grower’s Market, funding capital project and streetscape improvements along Bridge and Isleta Boulevards and providing outreach to local businesses.

South Valley MainStreet has received national accreditation under the Main Street America program, having met criteria under the program’s 10 Standards of Performance, including: broad-based community support from the public and private sector for revitalization, a developed vision and mission statement relevant to the community’s needs, and a comprehensive MainStreet work plan with a historic preservation ethic; and

National accreditation for South Valley MainStreet reflects the organization’s dedication to a healthy community along Bridge and Isleta Boulevards and future prospects for continued growth and development.
