Bernalillo County Board Thanks Chavez Martial Arts Academy and Melcor Chavez

05/08/2018

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners does hereby thank Grandmaster Melcor Chavez for his contributions to children and adults, promoting a philosophy of manners and respect, for self and others.

Grandmaster Melcor Chavez, a lifelong resident of the South Valley, is celebrating his 45th anniversary as a teacher of the martial arts.

Grandmaster Chavez began his professional martial arts career on May 8, 1973 with the formation of Chavez Karate, now known as Chavez Martial Arts Academy, Inc..

He is the owner and chief instructor of Chavez Martial Arts Academy, Inc., a locally operated program designed to develop strong martial arts students who become responsible and civic-minded adults.

Grandmaster Chavez has dedicated his life to serving the students and families in his community, guiding them towards personal and professional success, academic achievement, and reaching their full potential. He has served as a mentor, facilitator, and counselor in this lifelong process and has had a positive impact on thousands of students over his career, now teaching third and fourth generation students and families.

Grandmaster’s martial arts credentials include being a ninth degree Black Belt in Kajukembo Karate; 3rd Level Red Shirt “Chief” in Derobio Escrima; “Kru,” or master level in Muay Thai, the National Fighting sport of Thailand; and founder of his own “world renowned ” kickboxing system.

Grandmaster Chavez is one of the first martial arts instructors on the mainland to specialize in children’s programs, teaching students as young as three years old, recognizing the need for early childhood education and development.

Grandmaster Melcor Chavez and Chavez Martial Arts Academy Inc. have contributed thousands of volunteer hours helping people and organizations in need.

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners does hereby thank Grandmaster Melcor Chavez for his contributions to children and adults, promoting a philosophy of manners and respect, for self and others.
