Free Youth Leadership Event Upcoming June 18-20

There is a free leadership training for youth in our community coming up June 18-20! The DEA and the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) are hosting this three-day event at UNM.

BernCo and UNM Celebrate Partnership at North Golf Course

Dignitaries from Bernalillo County, including Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins, the University of New Mexico, the State of New Mexico and the UNM North Neighborhood Association planted a tree and buried a time capsule marking the 20th anniversary year of Bernalillo County Open Space and five years since the creation of the UNM North Golf Course Urban Open Space.

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized Monday, May 28, 2018 as Memorial Day to express everlasting gratitude to those brave men and women in the United States Armed Forces who have died in the service of our country, to give thanks to their families who have also made great sacrifices, and to urge all county residents to observe this day and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy because of their service.

Recent Trade Mission to Singapore

Four New Mexico companies are excited about their recent participation at the 2018 Food and Hotel Asia Expo in Singapore. Newest Behavioral Health Initiative Program Aims to Prevent Youth Homelessness

On May 10 BernCo announced the Behavioral Health Initiative’s latest program - Youth Transitional Living Services. Bernalillo County presented New Day, YDI, Casa Q, and Serenity Mesa with a ‘big check’ for $800,000 to incorporate the program into their operations.

BernCo Commission Approves Purchase Agreement for Asian American Monument Public Art Sculpture

On March 27 the County Commission, on a 4-0 vote, approved a motion authorizing the County Manager to approve an artwork purchase agreement with Cheryll Leo-Gwin and Stewart Wong, the creators of an Asian American Monument sculpture, "View from Gold Mountain" that will be located on the West side of the Second Judicial District Courthouse.

Please note the new location and date! Our speaker in June will be Natalie Donnelly, Community Food Projects Manager ~ Presbyterian Center for Community Health. The Presbyterian Center for Community Health focuses on three priorities for keeping our community healthy ~ healthy eating, active living and prevention of unhealthy substance abuse. Natalie will discuss the many programs ~ including: Light the District, Healthy Here Mobile Farmers’ Market, SNAP Double Up Food Bucks, WIC & Senior Nutrition Programs, Prescription Trails ~ that Community Health supports. She will also discuss the Albuquerque food desert and how the community farmers’ markets contribute to the local economy. Before or after the luncheon, please take the time to see how Keshet has grown and thrived over the years. Also walk around this neighborhood and see how it is becoming a mid-heights destination site. This is a Brown Bag Luncheon – you bring a sandwich and we will provide the beverages.
