Bernalillo County Public Safety Memorial Ribbon-Cutting Held Sept. 23

Bernalillo County, along with the public safety community, formally presented the first of two Bernalillo County public safety memorials to the community at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. The East Mountain memorial is located at 49 Public School Road in Tijeras, NM, across the roadway from the Deputy James McGrane Public Safety Center.

County Commissioner Wayne Johnson invited the community to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The memorial honors and remembers law enforcement officers, firefighters, corrections officers and first responders who have given their lives protecting others. Those being memorialized are fallen Bernalillo County, City of Albuquerque, federal, state, and local agency public safety officers who served or lived in Bernalillo County.

"I am extremely gratified that after far too many years the men and women who gave their lives to keep us all safe are finally receiving the kind of permanent public tribute that they have earned," states Commissioner Johnson. "These two memorials will serve as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice made by those who gave their all and their families who lost their loved one so that we could live in peace and safety."

Later this fall, the second Bernalillo County Public Safety Memorial, located at Arroyo del Oso Park, will be completed and have its own ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public will be notified of the event details as they become available.
