Earth Day is April 22. All month long, activities are being organized to honor and protect our Earth. We will be joined by local Environmental Justice leaders, water conservation experts, and also get the scoop on the Kirtland Air Force Base jet fuel cleanup and how to engage in their upcoming virtual Open House. Certified Mindfulness Teacher and Master Naturalist volunteer, Marnie Rehn, will guide you on a mindfulness exploration through Bachechi Open Space. Explore with your senses, igniting your sense of wonder as you experience yourself as part of the natural environment. Class size is limited to adhere to COVID-Safe practices and public health order guidelines. Upon registration, specific details will be provided about meeting location, how to prepare, where to park, and more. Register early to ensure your spot. Join us in your neighborhood on April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon for The Great American Cleanup, the country’s largest community improvement program that kicks off in more than 20,000 communities each Spring. In Albuquerque, your neighborhood can register to #cleanYOURblock. To help you clean up your neighborhood and Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department will: • Provide free trash bags and gloves to your cleanup. • Collect your neighborhood waste from the cleanup at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. Registration deadline is Friday, April 16, at 5 p.m. Download the registration form and e-mail it to milaromero@cabq.gov.

In this workshop, we will use the ABQ Backyard Refuge Program (ABQ BRP) workbook and learn a myriad of ways the Bachechi Open Space might better support local plants and wildlife. Meet with the ABQ BRP team who will feature Bachechi Open Space as an example to demonstrate the first step in becoming a certified habitat – and in turn, be able to certify your own garden as a backyard refuge.
