Bernalillo County to Close East Mountain Open Space Areas Due to High Fire Danger

All of Bernalillo County’s East Mountain open space properties will be closed due to the high fire danger in those areas starting Friday, June 15, at 8 a.m. Ojito de San Antonio, Sandia Knolls, Sedillo Ridge and Sabino Canyon Open Space Properties will be closed until further notice. Carlito Springs was already closed for renovations. The closures will remain in effect until the forest receives a significant amount of moisture and the fire danger level decreases substantially.

County Commission Votes to Ban Open Burning in Unincorporated Bernalillo County

Due to severe drought, the Bernalillo County Commission voted at its administrative meeting on April 10, 2018, on a resolution to ban the use of open fires, campfires, and smoking in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County for the next 180 days.

On Jan. 9 , 2018, the Bernalillo County Commission honored three Bernalillo County Fire Department firefighters who traveled to Chino Hills, California last month to assist in firefighting efforts on what has become the largest wildfire in California history.

County Grievance Counselors Provide Aid in Aztec

Four firefighters from the Bernalillo County Fire Department (BCFD) are in Aztec, N.M. to assist local personnel with grievance counseling in the wake of the recent tragedy.

For the second year in a row, AFD & BCFD are partnering up on a Smoke Alarm Distribution Project. During this community risk reduction project, AFD and BCFD will distribute two free smoke alarms per household to city and county homeowners until supplies last.
