Workshop on How Septic Systems Affect Groundwater

08/16/2017

Bernalillo County – The primary source of drinking water in Bernalillo County is groundwater. Septic tanks have been identified as a main source of groundwater contamination.

In November 1993, the Bernalillo County Commission adopted the Groundwater Protection Policy and Action Plan that outlines steps that should be taken to protect the valuable resource of groundwater.

The BernCo Natural Resource Services Program will be hosting its next septic systems workshop on Friday, Aug. 18 from 1 – 3 p.m. The workshop is free.

At the workshop, residents will learn about septic system contamination, the impact on groundwater and how it can be prevented with proper maintenance.

The presentation will be followed with a question and answer session.

Bernalillo County residents, septic contractors and real estate agents are encouraged to attend.
