Animal Care Services

Generally, livestock and farm animals that are found running at large and are picked up by a BCACS officer are held at our office until the Livestock Board is contacted and can pick up the animal from our facility.

The livestock board “strays out” the animals and if an owner does not come forward, LSB then transports the animals to the sale barn and they will be auctioned.

Lost and Found Farm Animals

Livestock and farm animal owners should call the Bernalillo County Animal Care Services Office at (505) 314-0281 or (505) 468-7387 or via email at animal@bernco.gov to confirm if the livestock and farm animals picked up match animals they have lost. No other information will be provided. It will be up to the owner to provide: location or immediate area where the animal was lost, as well as the type, description, sex of animal, and any identifying marks. Unclaimed livestock will be turned over to the Livestock Board.
