BernCo Open Space Presents Late Winter/Early Spring Zoom Classes

Bernalillo County Open Space is excited to present five special events in February and March for residents interested in gardening, sustainable landscaping, photography and more.

All the events are virtual and free. Pre-registration is necessary to obtain the Zoom login details. To register, email Marnie at bospace@bernco.gov. or go online to http://www.bernco.gov/community-services/event-registration.aspx.

Here is a schedule of these late winter/early spring events:
Wild Child: Getting Your Baby Outdoors
Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. - register no later the Feb. 5.
For new parents who miss spending time in the outdoors, this free workshop gives the know-how and information worth considering while getting outside with their children.
Presented by outdoor educators and parents, Matt and Tori Baker-White.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Friday, Feb. 13, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. - register no later the Feb. 12.
This nature-based guided meditation is designed to offer emotional refuge and renewal during these challenging times. Nature has a great healing capacity and modern research is validating what is known experientially.
Presented by certified mindfulness educator and naturalist, Marnie Rehn.

A Beginner’s Journey in Landscape Photography
Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. - register no later the Feb. 19.
Many have taken to the outdoors during this pandemic and have discovered a new passion for photography.
Topics include understanding light and lens, subject, composition and color versus monochrome.
Presented by amateur photographer Sajini Badrinarayan.

Tending to Pollinators
Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. - register no later the March 5.
This workshop will teach about tending to beneficial insects and pollinators so they can thrive in the yards of class participants. Learn early season strategies like knowing what to plant when managing spring yard preparations in a way that fosters a healthy environment.
Presented by Anita Amstudz, founder of the nonprofit, Think Like a Bee and BernCo master naturalist Mary Jo Picha.

Raised Bed Gardening and Composting
Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 9-11a.m. - register no later the March 26.
Master composter, John Zarola, will share how raised garden beds in the high desert present many useful management options for home gardeners. The class topics include bed set-up and sheet composting for soil fertility as well as making soil amendments, the types of mulches and which irrigation methods are well-suited for raised beds.
