BernCo Offers COVID-19 Donation Opportunity

Bernalillo County continues to accept donations in a special account through the Bernalillo County quality of life fund which allows donors to contribute to a program that offers families experiencing homelessness temporary hotel housing.
The vouchers are available to families who have recently become unhoused due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency. The collaboration will ensure that families have a safe place to stay while they work with APS established social workers to establish housing stability.

“This is a perfect chance to make a difference in someone’s life who is experiencing homelessness,” says Bernalillo County Commission Chair Charlene Pyskoty.  “I am urging everyone, as they accept their latest stimulus money from the federal government, if possible, to consider a donation to the Bernalillo County quality of life fund.”

To make an online donation, visit the New Mexico Foundation at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1441157?uniqueID=634466775676697665 and select BernCo Hotel Voucher Program in the drop-down list to make a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation. Bernalillo County
will utilize the McKinney-Vento program which is a partnership initiative with Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) to support families in need and provide transitional housing in the form of a hotel voucher.

The program participants are referred by APS schools, who have an established working relationship with the family. Upon receipt of the referral, the Behavioral Health Services Department will begin review, and then the placement process will begin.

The families chosen for the voucher program will also receive a variety of services including school-based social workers who will continue to provide case management support to ensure the families maintain and sustain housing, while students engage in educational opportunities provided by APS, and assistance in seeking long-term housing, educational support, and case management services for the entire family.

The Bernalillo County Quality of Life Fund supports responsible and effective philanthropy to enrich community wellness and social and cultural experiences of Bernalillo County residents. Operated in partnership with fiscal sponsor, New Mexico Foundation, funds raised support unfunded Bernalillo County initiatives to increase amenities, create partnerships for collaborative programming, and develop resources that promote healthy living.
