Welcome to the ABC Community School Partnership

Hello, and thank you for taking time to learn more about ABC Community School Partnership - a terrific collaboration among local governments, the business community, and Albuquerque Public Schools that is doing great things for our public school students.

The ABC Community School Partnership (ABC) is the one of the most successful new initiatives in the Albuquerque region today.  Major partners include Bernalillo County, Mayor Richard Berry, The Albuquerque City Council, Albuquerque Public Schools, United Way, ABEC, and many other business and community sponsors.

The Community Schools strategy is simple – connect struggling students and families with the resources they need to succeed in school and life.

Our partnership is quickly expanding to help more students and families succeed academically and in the community.  We now have 23 pilot community schools in Albuquerque, a dramatic increase from just four in 2012.  And ABC supports another 52 schools with funding for quality afterschool programs.

The partnership employs Community Schools Coordinators at select schools who help connect students and families with whatever they need to overcome barriers to learning, from job training to healthy food, healthcare or academic mentoring.

The results are positive. Independent evaluations show increases in reading and math scores, attendance, state grades, and deeper family and community engagement after connecting with our support network.

Why are we doing this?

With New Mexico ranked 49th for child well-being, we have a big job ahead of us but we are committed to giving all children in this community the resources they need to succeed in school, to graduate, and to access opportunities for productive, meaningful employment.

I’m proud to say local government, neighborhoods, business, and nonprofits have joined forces to address that challenge.

We’re always looking for volunteers and new partners in the business and nonprofit community. Please call (505) 468-1668 or email our staff at communityschools@bernco.gov to learn more today.

Thank you,

Maggie Hart Stebbins
Chair, ABC Community School Partnership
