County Commission Approves Biennial Budget

04/11/2018

The Bernalillo County Commission, by a 4-0 vote, approved the county biennial budget for fiscal years 2019 and 2020 during its last administrative meeting held Tuesday, April 10.

The budget for fiscal year 2019 establishes a general fund budget of almost $295 million with a total operating and investment budget of more than $663 million.

For fiscal year 2020, the planned general fund budget is just under $298 million.

“The county continues to look very closely at its budget and being responsible stewards of the taxpayers’ money,” says Bernalillo County Manager, Julie Morgas Baca. “This is a budget we believe we can work with to continue to offer great services to Bernalillo County residents.”

Included in the fiscal year 2019 budget are seven new full-time positions: two Metropolitan Detention Center custodians; and a total of five public works positions, three in operations and maintenance and two in solid waste.

The FY19 budget takes effect July 1, 2018.

The county’s administrative leadership presented the biennial budget to the County Commission during a public budget hearing on April 3, chaired by Commission Chair Steven Michael Quezada. Quezada was excused from the April 10 commission meeting.
