Bernco.gov Turns Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

10/19/2018

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Bernalillo County is supporting breast cancer awareness this week by turning the BernCo.gov website pink!

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. According to breastcancer.org, about 40,920 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2018 from the disease.

Bernalillo County wants to honor those affected by the disease by turning the Bernco.gov website pink to raise awareness, providing resources about how to fight it and helping raise money for research.

For more information about the symptoms of breast cancer, strategies for early detection and ways you can help, visit the National Breast Cancer.org’s website.

Here are a few more ways BernCo is “thinking pink:”

  • There will be a Think Pink Bake Sale benefiting the United Way on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first floor of One Civic Plaza, next to the Water Authority Office. Cookies, cupcakes, donuts, brownies, coffee and more, all hosted by the BernCo United Way liaisons.

  • The Bernalillo County Fire Team will hold the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, a powerful event to raise awareness and funds to end breast cancer, on Saturday October 27, 2018 at Isleta Amphitheater Parking Lot, 5601 University Blvd SE Albuquerque, NM. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30. The team name is Bernalillo County Fire.

  • The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department members are wearing special pink patches on their uniforms all month.

  • Bernalillo County firefighters have worn and will continue to wear pink t-shirts for the entire month of October.

  • All Bernalillo County employees are invited to think “PINK” to support breast cancer awareness this week by wearing pink.
