Dr. William B. Pratt Appointed to Fill District 27 Legislative Seat


The Bernalillo County Board of County Commissioners has appointed Dr. William B. Pratt to fill the District 27 seat of the New Mexico House of Representatives.

Dr. Pratt is a retired orthopedic surgeon, husband, and father of four adult children. He is a lifelong advocate for children's’ health and related issues, and a 40-year New Mexico resident.

Pratt is the Democratic nominee for New Mexico House District 27 in the current election.

“Government should continue to move forward and it’s the duty of the county commission to fill this district seat at this time,” Commission Chair Steven Michael Quezada states. “The voters will make the final decision on a permanent replacement in the general election.”

The New Mexico House of Representatives District 27 is located in the northeast heights of the City of Albuquerque, in Bernalillo County. A map of District 27 is located here on the New Mexico Legislature’s website.

The seat was vacated by Larry Larrañaga who resigned.

Representative Larrañaga passed away on Oct. 9, 2018 at the age of 80.

The county received six applications for consideration for the District 27 seat vacancy.

Commissioners Steven Michael Quezada, Debbie O’Malley, and Maggie Hart Stebbins voted in favor. Commissioners Lonnie Talbert and James E. Smith voted against.
