Bernalillo County Animal Care Services is committed to providing the highest level of services and protection to both the citizens and the animals of our community by effectively and humanely enforcing the ordinances as they pertain to animal care and the public’s health, safety and welfare. We are dedicated to protecting the citizens of Bernalillo County from animal related injury and disease and further committed to protecting the animals we share our community with from abuse and neglect.


ENFORCEMENT

  • Provide enforcement of all local and state codes pertaining to the welfare of animals and ensure public health and safety when pertaining to animals
  • Track rabies vaccinations in Bernalillo County of all dogs, cats and ferrets
  • Provide permitting of animal establishments and animal operations throughout the county
  • Pick up stray and dangerous animals
  • Quarantine biting animals

OUTREACH

  • Provide community training, education and outreach with regard to animal care and animal issues
  • Provide public microchip and rabies clinics to reduce the cost for these services and meet the needs of the community
  • Provide resource and referral services pertaining to animal care and animal issues including behavioral problems and information
  • Operate volunteer program
  • Secure placement of animals

SHELTERING

  • Provide animal adoption and disposal services
  • Provide care and maintenance for animals in the facility

MEDICAL

  • Provide medical care and maintenance for the animals in the facility as well as spay and neuter functions

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Administer Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
  • Provide licensing of animals throughout the county
  • Process owners reclaim and relinquishment
  • Act as primary customer services representatives

The Matrix is used during the Build Foundation and Developing Framework phases of the performance reporting process. While developing the Matrix the mission, services, projects, and performance measures are reviewed, updated, and/or established for the upcoming cycle. The Meeting Agenda and Industry Research are used during the Analyze & Review phase of the performance reporting process. The Meeting Agenda tracks questions and follow up items addressed during the DCM Performance Meetings, while the Industry Research is reviewed for industry trends and benchmarking opportunities.
