Bernalillo County – Commissioner Wayne Johnson welcomes the community to the 2017 East Mountain Celebration, Sunday, Sept. 24 from noon to 4 p.m. at Los Vecinos Community Center, 478 N.M. 333, in the Village of Tijeras.

This year, Bernalillo County is honoring seven outstanding students from middle schools in County Commission District 5 for their great work in the classroom and the community.

“These middle school students are already learning what it takes to be valuable members of their communities by not only focusing on their classwork, but also by doing volunteer work that is making a difference in those communities,” says County Commissioner Wayne Johnson. “Feeding the hungry, service projects in the boy scouts and becoming leaders in their schools are just some of the ways these Academically Outstanding Students prove they are deserving of this honor.”

Enjoy free music from a great local band and chow down from a variety of fantastic food vendors. This is a family-friendly event and kids can enjoy free activities like face painting, fun jumps and more. Entertainment includes dance and cheer teams, plus there will be a car show and information booths.

For some pre-East Mountain Celebration fun, watch the movie “Sing,” which is being presented as part of the county’s Movies in the Park series on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Roosevelt Middle School Park, just south of Los Vecinos Community Center, at dusk. If inclement weather exists, the movie will be moved indoors.
