Bernalillo County – The Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services, Uber, Cumulus Media Albuquerque and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (ENDWI) are once again offering a safe ride option for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This program gives the community the opportunity to take advantage of a safe ride option to avoid driving under the influence during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend in which high alcohol consumption is common.

Albuquerque metro residents, including the East Mountains within Bernalillo County, need to download the Uber app and use the St. Patrick’s Day code ABQGREEN19. This code is valid for the first 600 riders from Friday, March 15 at noon through Monday March 18 at 3 a.m. By using the code, riders will receive a credit of up to $10 off for up to two trips. First-come, first-served. The credit can only be used for rides, not Uber Eats, and the discount does not cover tip.

Please share this code with coworkers and friends that are planning to celebrate over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

“Take a Ride on Us” is the creation of Cumulus Media Albuquerque. The program has seen massive success through the incredible partnership of Uber, Bernalillo County and ENDWI.

Bernalillo County has contributed $60,000 to this effort, helping to pay for the first $10 of each Uber ride. The average Uber ride in the Albuquerque area runs less than $10. If the cost for the ride exceeds $10, the patron will have to cover the remaining amount.

The county’s financial contribution comes from liquor excise taxes – additional taxes that New Mexico retailers and consumers pay when purchasing alcohol. The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department collects and distributes the taxes to New Mexico counties on a quarterly basis.

The $60,000 Bernalillo County has provided for this effort will help fund the program until the end of the current fiscal year, June 30, 2019.

Since the program’s inception in the summer of 2017, “Take a Ride on Us” has provided a safe ride option to over 14,000 riders in the Albuquerque Metro area.
