County Acknowledges Accounting and Budget Department for Two Awards

The Accounting and Budget Department is the recipient of two prestigious awards that recognize the department’s excellence in financial reporting for fiscal year 2016. The two awards highlight the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), which is a condensed, easy to understand version of the larger Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

The Government Finance Officers Association is the entity that presented the county with both awards. The certificate program was established in 1945 to encourage local governments to perform above and beyond the minimum standards of financial accounting, and develop stronger accounting practices. In order to receive this award, Bernalillo County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for governmental accounting.

The Government Finance Officers Association judges the financial reports on the transparency and comprehensive nature of the report, along with reader appeal, understandability, ease of access, as well as overall usefulness to members of the public.

This is the 13th consecutive year, and the 16th year overall that the Government Finance Officers Association has awarded Bernalillo County for its outstanding work in creating the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. It is the 5th year that the county has received the award for the Popular Annual Financial Report, since the award’s inception in 2011.
