Through the Bernalillo County Planning Division, there is an opportunity to positively affect the easternmost area of the county that runs along Route 66.

The great investment made by earlier property owners on this section of East Route 66 was not in vain. There is current interest and energy in not only honoring that past, but connecting it to the 21st Century.

This portion of East Route 66 has a history of commercial uses. Click here to see a list. Currently, there are a number of businesses operating under Special Use Permits because these properties are not zoned for commercial use.

A Special Use Permit allows activities on a property that would not otherwise be allowed under its existing zoning.

The sector plan process will consider commercial zoning for the properties along the north and south sides of NM 333, East Route 66, from the county line on the east to Sedillo Hill on the west, as well as establish design criteria to maintain the aesthetics of the community.
