BernCo Board Recognizes and Thanks Former Commissioner Corky Morris After His Passing

10/09/2018

Bernalillo County has lost a public servant, former county Commissioner James “Corky” Morris, who passed away on Sept. 27 at the age of 83. He is probably best known for guiding others in the political arena.

Morris served on the Bernalillo County Commission from 1972 to 1982. Back then, the commission only had three members and those 10 years amounted to three terms.

When Morris was elected to county government, commissioners served two-year terms, but he helped usher in the four-year term and served two before leaving the commission. He also served two terms as chair of the Bernalillo County Commission.

Morris served as chairman of the State Republican Party, treasurer and campaign manager for Pete Domenici, Jack Stahl, and Hall Stratton. He also was the state chairman of the Reagan/Bush campaign in the 1980s.

Morris was a product of Highland High School and the University of New Mexico, where he majored in business administration and played baseball.

The Board of Commissioners would like to thank Corky Morris for his service to Bernalillo County and New Mexico and express our sincere condolences to his family.
