Election Day, Nov. 5, 2019 - New Election Sees Surge in Early Voting

11/04/2019

Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover reminds voters that Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. There will be 69 Voting Convenience Centers around the county open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All of the early voting locations will be open, and voting convenience centers are being opened at many public schools. The full list is here.

This is the first regular local election conducted under the auspices of the Local Election Act (LEA) of 2018 and HB 407 of 2019 which provide for consolidated local elections in New Mexico. As of 12:05 p.m. today, 51,576 ballots had been cast in Bernalillo County. 43,706 were early voters and 7,870 were absentee voters. During early voting, 1,254 people either registered to vote for the first time or updated their voter registration.

“The most recent municipal election with the same city council races and ballot questions was in 2015, and a total of 28,408 people voted that year,” says Clerk Stover. “This time, Election Day is tomorrow and over 50,000 people have already voted! We are thrilled that voters are responding to the new regular local election and hope every eligible voter who has not already voted, will do so tomorrow.”

“I am working hand in hand with the County Clerk and these early and absentee voting numbers are very exciting,” says City Clerk Katy Duhigg. “We’re all urging voters to turn out on Election Day.”

To vote, county residents may present a physical form of ID such as a driver’s license, original copy of a utility bill, bank statement or student ID card. Or, voters may choose to identify themselves with a verbal or written statement of their name, registration address and year of birth.

It is possible for voters to review their sample ballot in advance so candidates and questions can be researched. Go to bernco.gov/elections and click on “My Voter Information.” Voters may enter their information and a sample ballot will be generated. Background information on candidates and ballot questions can be found on the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico Voter Guide and through local news media coverage.

“We are doing everything we can to make the regular local election voting experience in Bernalillo County as convenient as possible,” continues Stover. “Our voting locations have well-trained and dedicated poll officials who will assist you tomorrow and have you in and out in no time.”
