County Manager

CORRECTED: BernCo Signs Contract for Body-Worn Cameras

The Bernalillo County manager has signed a five-year services agreement with Utility Incorporated out of Georgia to supply and service body-worn cameras, front and rear vehicle HD cameras, and communication hubs for the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

The initial services agreement is for a total expenditure of slightly more than $3.8 million for 363 body-worn cameras. Additionally, 148 vehicles will be equipped with front and rear-facing HD cameras.

The solution includes integration with vehicles and holsters to automatically begin recording when important events such as a high-speed pursuit occur. This advanced technology implementation includes in-vehicle communications hubs and video recorders to automatically offload video recordings from both the vehicles and body worn cameras.

The service agreement includes installation, software, training, and maintenance for five years.

“This is a historic step for Bernalillo County and the protection of our deputies and the citizens of the county,” says County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “The county is fulfilling the state legal requirement of body-worn cameras while ensuring that interactions between law enforcement staff and those they contact are recorded for the protection of all.”

The contract monetary agreement is as follows:

Equipment hardware/software $3,627,581
New Mexico gross receipt tax $185,914
New Mexico purchase agreement fee $36,276
Subtotal $3,849,770

Delivery and installation will begin on Dec. 7. A schedule for completion will be worked out between the Sheriff’s office and Utility Incorporated.
