Metropolitan Detention Center Launches New Inmate Phone System

The Metropolitan Detention Center is upgrading its inmate phone system.

As of Nov. 1, Bernalillo County’s inmate phone service contract will switch over from its current provider, Securus, to the new provider, GTL. GTL provides communication services to correctional facilities across the United States. In addition to phone services, the new contracted services with GTL also include the management of MDC’s new video visitation system and the inmate tablet system.

MDC will begin the conversion from Securus to GTL after evening lock-down hours begin on Oct. 31, in order to limit interruptions to the phone service. Any money left on an inmate or family member’s Securus account will be refunded following the contract switch.

Under the new contract, members of the public will still be able to deposit money into an inmate’s account using MDC’s on-site system, as well as in person at the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office. In order to make online deposits, a new account must be created with GTL, by following this link: www.connectnetwork.com

These phone system upgrades are part two of a two-part project, under MDC’s new contract with GTL. Part one of the project was the installation of a new video visitation system, which was completed earlier this month. Back in June MDC also launched a new inmate tablet system, in partnership with GTL, which allows inmates to communicate with family and friends through monitored text messaging.
